We Celebrate Katie Blackwood's 15 Years of Directing LOC!

In May 2020, Liberty Oak Chorus celebrated our director, Katie Blackwood’s, 15th anniversary directing the chorus with a video tribute from our members. LOC had been a small chorus when Katie took the reins as our director in 2005.  That first year, Katie worked on vocal skills with the chorus and at our regional competition in 2006, we went up 127 points, the largest jump of any chorus in Sweet Adelines at the time.

With Katie’s talent and leadership, LOC continued to grow and improve. In 2010, LOC made its first appearance on the Sweet Adelines International Competition stage as a wild card in Seattle.

Katie continued to select wonderful music, attract new members and bring in first-class coaches to help the chorus on its journey to soar even higher.  In 2013, LOC won its first regional competition and went to International for the third time but this time as the regional champions!

With Katie’s guidance and focus on improvement, LOC continues to develop its signature sound and artistry. At our fifth International competition in St. Louis, LOC came in 12th in the world.

It has been an exciting ride that the chorus hopes to continue with its fabulous director, Katie, for many years to come.

Happy 15th Annniversary, Katie,

With Love from LOC
